Simply put, this is the plan you will work to when creating and scheduling your social media. It might be that you have offers, shows and launches throughout the year so yes you need one. I find it easier to plot a strategy for a quarter of the year for new customers. This way we can see how things worked, what worked best and then plan the next phase. The most important thing to remember when creating your social media marketing strategy is that it can (and will) develop over time. It doesn’t have to be perfect from day one. It’s better to start, track, and measure something rather than spend months coming up with a sophisticated plan.
Some of the key elements your strategy should consider are:
Which social media platforms you will use
The type of content you will create
Your social media marketing goals
Who your customers are
That last one is an important one. Your entire social media strategy needs to speak to someone. If you don’t have clear customer personas, now’s the time to create them. The social media landscape is a large one, so you could reach millions of people. And reaching them is half the game, the other half is engaging with them and giving them enough information so they decide to convert in to a sale. If the idea of creating campaigns and monitoring traffic seems a little too much for you now, start small. Know your customer and know what it is you want to say.
To begin with, it’s better to focus your social media strategy around two to three platforms and some may instantly stand out as being able to work best for you. Get on top of these and make sure you try and have an impact on them. In time, you can grow your strategy so it covers more platforms and reaches more people. Yet in the beginning, it’s vital you build momentum. You might want to jump right into TikTok and that might be the right thing to do, but if you don’t plan, then you plan to fail so start small.
Having social channels and not using them is more damaging, so be consistent once you have started.
